The devil wants to see if he can get you to doubt God’s Word.
Doubts are the devil’s thoughts and Satan’s words. When you’re doubting in your own mind, you’re thinking the enemy’s thoughts! When you’re voicing the enemy’s thoughts, you’re spreading Satan’s propaganda. Jesus said, “He (Satan), from the beginning, abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it” (Jn 8:44).
That’s his kind of witnessing. It has just the opposite effects of witnessing the truth of God and the Word of God! Doubts are monsters that devour and destroy you and the people and things around you. Beware of the enemy’s doubts! “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour” (1Pt 5:8). Don’t be his next meal!
Doubt is a tool of Satan to make us lack confidence in God’s Word and consider His judgment unlikely. That’s how Eve fell for it. Doubt is questioning God’s ability to overcome natural obstacles and to be true to His own Word. It happened to Zechariah who could not believe the Angel when he announced that his wife, in her old age, would bear him a son (Lk 1:18-20). Entertaining doubts weakens your overall faith.
The devil uses our carnal reasoning to overshadow the veracity of God’s Word. But remember God has made foolish the wisdom of the world (1Cor 1:20), and His seemingly foolish plans are far wiser than man’s. Faith is trusting God even when His plan goes against carnal reason or experience.
The best cure for doubt is the Word! “Faith comes by hearing and hearing [heading] by the Word of God” (Ro 10:17). If you’re weak in faith, it’s because you’re weak in the Word! The answer is in the Word there if you’re willing to receive it. The enemy works around the clock to blind us (and the unsaved) from the truth of God’s Word. “The god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, Who is the image of God should shine unto them” (2Cor 4:4). “Those by the wayside are they that hear; then comes the devil, and takes away the Word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved” (Jn 8:12).
When we ask God for anything, we are to ask in faith, without doubt (James 1:6). If we doubt God’s ability to respond to our request, what would be the point of asking in the first place? “He that comes to God must [first] believe that He is [God] and that He is the rewarder…” (Heb 11:6). God says that if we doubt while we ask, we will not receive anything from Him, because we are unstable. “He who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind” (James 1:6).
Remember what Jesus told Thomas who would not believe unless he saw. “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (Jn 20:25-29).
Faith is SEEING the “not yet” seen. “Faith is the ASSURANCE of things hoped for, the CONVICTION of things not seen.” (Heb 11:1) We can have confidence even in the things we cannot see, because God has proven Himself faithful, true, and able.
It actually is pretty serious to neglect the Word. There is a war against us to keep the Word from doing its work in us the way that the Lord needs it to! It is very important to get full of the Word, full of the Spirit. It’s like turning on the Light, the darkness will flee of itself.
Use God’s Word to resist the devil!–And LIVE a life filled with TRUTH!
