When I lived in Africa, I befriended the Canadian ambassador who was from my hometown. And whenever I would go to the embassy, the living standard inside the embassy was entirely different from what was going on in the streets outside. Inside, it was like being in Canada. Everything was available as it was in Canada, whereas outside, hardly anything was available. Why? Because the embassy was considered foreign territory within that local country.
I frequently traveled through the city with this ambassador in his official car, and I realized that wherever he went, he had diplomatic immunity. In this country where there were many military barricades, where all vehicles had to stop and be searched, his vehicle was simply waved through as soon as they saw his license plate.
And then, I realized that we too, as Christians, have diplomatic IMMUNITY from the kingdom of the devil. Why? Because we belong to another kingdom and in fact, because we’re AMBASSADORS of the Kingdom of Heaven (2 Cor 5:20), Sickness, disease and any other work of the devil have no right to attack us. We’re not under the subjection of the kingdom of darkness, because we are official representatives of the King of kings. “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in Whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins” (Col 1:13-14).
You can’t be accused or condemned or brought before any tribunal of the devil (Rom 8: 1-4). “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (Jn 10:10). In fact, if the devil is to pull you over, you can show him your card of authority given to you by Jesus, that says, “This person is not to be detained for any reason.” We need to realize that we’ve been given the “authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions and over all the works of the devil and nothing shall by any means hurt us” (Lk 10:19).
Whenever the devil tries to hinder us, we need to pull out that “power of attorney” given to us by Jesus and say, “No devil, you’ve got the wrong person, I belong to the WINNER, Jesus, and you can’t hinder me!”
Once a person is arrested, the officer “reads” the person his/her rights: “You have the right to remain silent, you have the right to legal counsel… ” So remain silent. Don’t agree with the devil when he tells you you’ll be sick like everyone else, remain silent and whatever you do, don’t agree with his lies, accusations and condemnation. Keep your mouth shut. And wait for your advocate to defend you. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil” (1 Jn 3:8).
He intercedes for you. He comes in and says, “My client has diplomatic immunity and we’re done here.” “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He Who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 Jn4:4).
Accepting the accusations means you give your assent and consent—you internally give your nod of agreement. You’ve switched from a place of passive hearing to active thinking or speaking. Don’t accept his lies or you’ll act on it. You’ll take a step to live as though the idea is true and reliable.
Walk in the authority that Christ has given you. “Rebuke the devil and he will flee from you” (Jam 4:7).
Yes, there’s a war on. But that war has already been won and you’re on the winning side. Walk in triumph and enforce the victory. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31).
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world” (1 Pet 5:8-9).
