We know that Jesus died because we needed to be redeemed. But Jesus actually came to restore what Adam had lost through his disobedience. He had been given rulership over the earth at creation. “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Gen 1:26-28). Because sin had contaminated the nature of man, the Holy Spirit could no longer abide in man.
Through Jesus’ sacrifice, man was made righteous by God’s grace through faith, and therefore the Holy Spirit could again abide in man. It was expedient actually for Jesus to leave so we could receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you.” (Jn 16:7).
So the original purpose of the Holy Spirit was to help man fulfill his destiny as administrators and rulers of God’s Kingdom on earth. He was sent for us to fulfill God’s assignment. “The Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26).
The power of the Holy Spirit is to empower us to be like Jesus. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8). “Witnesses unto Me” actually means, samples of Me, replicas of Me.
When Jesus healed people, it was so that they could be free to fulfill their destiny. Healing was not the end, but a means to an end. The power of the Holy Spirit was originally given to man to help him accomplish God’s will.
Remember, after the resurrection, Jesus said, “All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. As the Father sent Me, so send I you. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” (Mt 28:18-19). —Same assignment, same commission. And then, “He breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.'” (Jn 20:22). –the same as was done by the Father at Creation. “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Gen 2:7). So again, the end purpose of the redemption was really to restore the presence of the Holy Spirit to man so that man could regain the power to rule in order to bring the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.
This empowered rulership is not a skill. It’s first inborn from the Spirit. When a person receives the revelation of who he/she is in Christ, his/her spirit is transformed. We then start seeing opportunities everywhere. We no longer see problems. We can surmount anything, because we have the revelation that we were born for excellence. Rulership is a revelation in the Spirit. Transformation through revelation.
The prophet Samuel explained to Saul what really happens when God anoints you. “Has not the Lord anointed you ruler over His inheritance?” (1 Sam 10:1). In other words, He appoints you as a manager over His inheritance here on earth. That’s really what happens to each one of us when we receive His Holy Spirit. We’re being made into another person. God changes our heart (v. 10).
Later, Samuel gives Saul a number of things to do, and after that, he said, “Do whatever you should do, because the Lord is with you.” (v. 7). The Holy Spirit will anoint you in whatever you do. Why? Because God is with you. “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.l” (Eph 1:13).
The spirit of authority and dominion over our circumstances is our God-given gift and when you receive the Holy Spirit, you then realize you’re supposed to be excellent (holy) as your Father is Holy. The Holy Spirit comes into your heart and you cry Abba, and you know your rights as a son/daughter. You then realize you’re of the same DNA (Divine Nature of Abba) as your Father. “The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.'” (Rom 8:15). What that basically means is that, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31).
We take on the identity of our Father. The Holy Spirit brings on the spirit of rulership and dominion to help us fulfill our destiny, that is the power to overcome, and it makes it so that we are able and willing to do anything.
The work of the Holy Spirit in our life is an on-going process of becoming holy through sanctification. Through the conviction and power of the Holy Spirit, believers will not indulge the sinful acts of the flesh (Galatians 5:16-21) but will bear the good fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25).
So we must let the Holy Spirit transform the spirit of our mind regarding who we are… a son/daughter crying Abba, so we can walk as royalty with the authority given to us by God. We are fearfully and WONDER-fully made. Made for WONDERS.
“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify Me because it is from Me that He will receive what He will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from Me what He will make known to you.” (John 16:13-15)
“But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you.” (Romans 8:10-11).
