As a believer, our motivation, our goal, our vision in life should be soul winning. Souls is what God is after. That was God’s plan for giving His Own Son in sacrifice, that all man/woman may be restored to Him. Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:32). Jesus explains in a parable how important it is to reach everyone! “And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that My house may be filled.” (Lk.14:23).
If you want to know how so very important it is to God that we be out there winning souls, just think about what Jesus said, “I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.” (Lk 15:7). And Jesus further explains the point in a parable: “What woman having ten pieces of silver, if she loses one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?” (Lk 14:8).
Speaking of the lost .. Let’s face it, our teenagers are lost and dying to drugs and alcohol. Marriages are ending in divorce in droves. Kids worldwide are confused and lost; subjected to all kinds of immorality and false doctrines everywhere. They’re insecure, hopeless and completely lost. We can’t be silent.
It never seems convenient to witness. We must get past excuses and leave our comfort zone. Compassion is what propels us to witness. “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead. And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” (2Cor 5:24,25). Plus, the great commission comes with a serious warning from Ezekiel 33:6. If we don’t tell, if we don’t share the truth, then their blood is on our hands. We’re accountable since we know the truth. We know better… “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” (Jam 4:17).
Of course we’ll meet opposition. Jesus said so. He said, “Don’t expect to be treated better than I was.” (Jn 15:20). Jesus was condemned by the religious because He was hanging with sinners, He rubbed shoulders with them, He was not a “holier than thou” rabbi. He walked with the people because He was concerned about their soul, rich or poor, pretty or ugly, He saw the soul that needed salvation. He said, “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” (Mark 2:17).
The greatest revelation that Paul had he called “the mystery of all ages”. That is “Christ in you”. “To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col 1:27). When you are saved, Jesus becomes your Lord. He lives in you and you become a ‘walking’ Jesus. His life in you is your energy to witness. You don’t have to do it. You just have to make yourself available to Christ.
Believers are those who believe. And “believe” is a verb, an action. You can’t say you believe unless you do something about it. This is why the world has yet to be completely evangelized. Believers don’t truly “believe”, and consequently they’re not going. Let’s face it, if we do not speak to the people we meet, Christ is silent. How the world would be so very different if every Christian was a witnesser and a soul winner!
