The Refuge Of Holiness

The Bible says that we’re untouchable: 1 John 5:18. “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.”

There’s refuge in holiness. We’re sanctified unto God, which means we’re separated from the world, and unto God. Sin has no power over us because Jesus broke the power of sin. “Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism.”

We’re not to be influenced by the world and its sinful influences. If ever there was a loud voice screaming in our ears to follow the world and be politically correct, it’s now. Jesus said, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of Herod.” Meaning that we are to be mindful of the traditions of religions and the traditions of men through “political correctness”, both are to make you conform to the world or to religious boundaries.

Jesus said, “You always err, not knowing the Word of God and the power of God” (Matthew 22:29). We are to know the Word of God and make it our inheritance. It’s not all to know that God loves us. But because of His love for us, we walk in His power.

The world will get worse and worse, but we do not have to be part of it. We can be separated unto God. You can tell the devil, “Take your best shot because there’s nothing in me.” Jesus said, “For the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me; but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me” (John 14:30). That’s the key right there… Jesus’ greatest example to us is obedience. Obedience is an awesome quality in Christianity. Instant and unconditional obedience takes 90% out of the pain of any dutiful task.

The devil can come at you and look for an open door but there’s none. Why? Because you give no place to the devil! Because “The Lord is your shield and your buckler.” His truth is an effective defensive armor which deflects those fiery darts and prevents them from wounding us. Paul calls His truth “the shield of faith” (Eph 6:16).

“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy” (Jude 24:25).

You don’t just fall into sin, you walk into sin… it’s a choice.. But the Spirit of God in you will keep you strong against sin if you yield to Him. And He gives you one desire, one vision, one focus: to free others of the bondage of sin. The power of sin has been broken, it’s a choice that we make to obey God.

It’s a good thing to walk in freedom.. to have only one Lord and one God; not a ton of gods, whether sex, money, drugs, alcohol or even food or sports. They’ll all be lords over you because whatever you magnify, you become the slave of (Romans 6:16).

It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. Live in the goodness of God, not in the fear of sin. In Christian life, we talk “victory ” always, and in all ways, because we always speak “the end result”. The Word of God dissipates problems as we proclaim it.

We can live above sin. Our life can always be fruitful. We live above the circumstances. We don’t live in the impossible, we live in the possible. “For with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:16). Faith is not an attitude, but it creates an attitude. Because by speaking the Word of God, we know that what we say will come to pass, because He will not let any of His words fall to the ground.

So, how do you “never fall” ? Peter explains how: “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall” (2 Peter 1: 1-10).

Here are a few more powerful passages from the Bible to meditate on, to hide ourselves in God.

“The name of Yahweh the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10).

“For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings”  (Ps. 61:3-4).

Psalms 91: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust. Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My Name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him My Salvation.”
