Here’s something quite INTENSE that Jesus said, that we just read in the Gospels and pass over it without meditating on it.
When the disciples of John the Baptist came to Jesus to ask on John’s behalf, “Are you the One that we are expecting or should we look for another one? “
Jesus did not reply at first… Not because he was upset, but He needed to do something. He proceeded to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons, and raise the dead. And then, only then, he replied to John’s followers, saying “Go and tell John the things you have SEEN and HEARD: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.” (Matthew 7:18-33).
He didn’t send them back saying, “didn’t John the Baptist hear My sermon on the mountain? Does he not know what I teach? Has he not ever heard my sermons?”
Jesus’ credentials were His miracles. He was explaining that the kingdom is not in preaching, not in word, but in POWER; without miraculous manifestations, you’re not showing the kingdom.
The ultimate purpose of Jesus coming was to give the kingdom back to MAN, as it was intended to be before the devil took possession of it. He empowered us to destroy the works of the devil, wherever we go. (Mark 16:15-18).
And… as if that wasn’t enough, He went on to say that the least in the kingdom of God is greater than John the Baptist. He wasn’t demeaning John, but was emphasizing the fact that any believer empowered by His Holy Spirit and operating in the authority that Jesus gave us, can do the same miracles as Jesus did, and even greater. WOW 😲…
