A Father’s New Year’s BLESSING.

My father, on the morning of New Year’s day, would gather all of us children, and we would kneel down, and he would lay his hand on our head, one by one and pronounce a blessing. And I would remember this gesture all year.

In Bible days, the blessing of the father was the most important thing next to the blessing of God. I would encourage all fathers (or mothers) to take a moment to write down a blessing for your children at the start of this new year, and pronounce it upon them.

There is no greater mission field for a parent than that of raising his/her children in the Lord.  It’s one of the greatest challenges of today for parents to keep their children from the I’ll effects of worldly input and negative influences.

Everything evil about the world is aimed FIRST at children. –All of the evils of society, the politically correct agendas, all the devil’s conspiracies, whether it’s the homosexuality exertive agenda in schools, the abortion drive, the evolution conspiracy, the vaccination push, the pornography enticement, endless computer gaming, and on goes the list.

Having those beautiful children comes with the greatest challenge ever given to man; RAISING them RIGHT. And it’s the greatest, most important assignment any parent has.

There’s no responsibility more important than to pass on the true values in life to our children. School will not pass on those values, TV won’t and friends won’t. It’s the responsibility of the parents to spell out those godly values to the kids. No small task… but most rewarding. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  (Pr 22:6)

I have included at the end of this DAILY MEDS the blessings spelled out in Deuteronomy 28 to give you ideas. And to offer some more contemporary options, I will spell out a few that may be a help to you.

  • That they may be BOLD to stand up for the truth.
  • That they may have GOOD COMPANY and good influence from friends, teachers and mentors.
  • That they may have conviction, and a heart to OBEY godly principles.
  • That their projects, their resolutions, and their endeavors be ALIGNED with God’s will and be blessed by the Lord.
  • That their heart and soul be filled with INTEGRITY and purity.
  • That their MIND will be strong and DISCIPLINED along with their speech; that they may be praiseful always; that they may always bless others with right words.
  • That they will be GENEROUS, cheerful in giving and helpful and caring towards others.
  • That they will be HUMBLE and meek and trust in the promotions of God.
  • That they will NOT LET IN BITTERNESS, nor envy, unforgiveness, gossip, nor ungodly competition.
  • That they will be an instrument of love, peace and goodness in God’s hand.
  • That the Lord will pour abundant prosperity on them.

The BLESSINGS of  Deut 28.

If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all His commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: you will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock–the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land He is giving you. The LORD will establish you as His holy people, as He promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity–in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground–in the land He swore to your forefathers to give you. The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of His bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.
